Oh, my aching tooth! A toothache may in truth be unbearably painful and whenever it occurs, you plainly cannot ignore it. A toothache may be so severe that even Shakespeare once made a remark pertaining to this unnerving pain. He was cited saying, “For there was never yet a philosopher that could endure the toothache patiently”. And, of course, he was right!

There may be a whole lot of reasons why you experience toothaches. Some of these may result from the following:

o You may have sensible teeth so you felt a momentary twinge after you ate or drank something hot, something cold or something sweet.

o You may be suffering from sinus problems. In this case, you may observe that the pain is fixed to your upper teeth. Also, various teeth may be affected at once.

o You have undergone a dental procedure. This may leave the teeth sensible to temperature changes for a few weeks.

o You have an abscessed tooth.

Of these four, the last one is a sure indication of a severe dental problem and requires prompt attention. An abscessed tooth means that the pulp (the living portion) of the tooth died. The pulp holds the blood vessels and the nerves that nourish the tooth. Once it is damaged or unnecessarily exposed, the tooth may be infected and the resulting infection may disseminate to the gum. In worst cases, the infection may even disseminate as far as the bone. Let me warn you – a deep cavity, a cracked tooth or a hard blow to the tooth may harm the pulp in as little as 12 hours! To complicate matters further, the pulp does not have the capacity to fix itself. So, it is in truth of utmost importance to seek for prompt dental help when you experience an aching tooth.

When a severe toothache occurs, the pain may be so unbearable that you will have to visit your dentist. However, there may be times when doing so may be rather impossible. Under these situations, you may try these simple suggestions to deal with the pain:

o Pop up a pill. You may gain from taking aspirin, acetaminophen or ibuprofen. It will relieve the inflammation that comes with a toothache, no matter how severe it may be.

o A little touch of oil of cloves may help. To ease the pain, employ a little amount of oil of cloves directly to the aching tooth. This will numb the nerves and may calm the pain for rather galore time. Just be cautious in applying it so that it won’t get on your gums. Otherwise, you will feel a burning sensation on your gums that may rival the pain from the toothache!

o Chill it out! A cold compress applied on the outside of your cheeks may reduce the swelling brought in regards to by a severe toothache. Or you may undertake keeping an ice cube or cold water in your mouth to temporarily relieve the pain. But if you have sensible teeth and you feel that doing this aggravates the condition, merely discontinue it is application.

o Clean it up! Rinse your mouth or floss your teeth to remove any remaining feed particles. While these may not directly support in easing the pain, it may unquestionably get rid of feed debris that may make difficultnesses worse.

o Cover it up. Sometimes, you may feel that the tooth is getting more sensible to air. In this case, you may gain from covering it with gauze or sugarless chewing gum until you may get suitable dental attention.
