What a pleasant surprise!

My dentist not long ago advised me to consider porcelain veneers as an option to fix my not-so-beautiful teeth. He explained that he would basi grind my teeth down and then install “a smile fit for a Hollywood star”….and all for just a couple of thousand dollars. I in truth liked the way it all sounded but was not 100% sold….so I went online and “Googled” in an venture to find a heap of unbiased exploration on the subject. What I found was a plethora of dentists touting how outstanding veneers are.

Then I stumbled onto the book “Confessions of a former cosmetic dentist” by Dr. Zuk and decisive to buy it plainly because the title intrigued me. I was expecting to use the book as a late evening “sleep inducer”. What I found was the precise opposite. The dentist who wrote this book in some manner managed to simultaneously school me on the dos and don’ts of cosmetic dentistry while keeping me well pleasantly occupied throughout. The combining of his in-depth knowledge, his brutal honesty, his arid sense of humor and his never ending sarcasm pulled me back and forth amid gasping in amazement at the audacity of the dental industry and laughing till I had a few tears falling from my eyes. You might say he’s 1/3 “educator”, 1/3 “whistle blower” and 1/3 “stand-up comic”. In the end the combining works because I finished the book in no-time and decisive that I would never, ever get sucked into buying veneers. I feel like I now know each dirty little trick that my dentist would even consider pulling on me. Definitely worth a read.

My teeth were little and gappy. I was finelooking happy with my smile until my dentist pointed out all the things that were faulty with it. She was nice and all but in truth thought that I would feel better with regards to myself if my smile was perfect. I got sucked into a mouth full of vaneers. I have to confess my smile looks great. I love how perfective my teeth are and that I no longer have any gaps. However…if I had read this book before getting them I doubt very much that I would have done it. I would have opted for orthodontics. Dr. Zuk is barbarically honorable when it comes to the cosmetic dentistry industry and gives the reader a fun and agreeably diverting trip through a world that we don’t give much thought to. If you are giving careful consideration to a cosmetic routine on your teeth read this book first! At least you will go into getting anything done with your eyes WIDE open!

This book is a will have to read for any individual who is even concidering any type of cosmetic dentistry, or has a friend or family fellow member giving careful consideration to it. It unquestionably gives you an in-depth look into the world of cosmetic dentistry and gives you a peak behind the curtain. The author uses a lot of humour which makes the book a lot of fun to read. Very informative and entertaining.
